Mary Sharples

Hi I'm Mary, and I’m the Community Lead at The Hub. I’m passionate about creating spaces where people feel genuinely welcome, valued and at home. In my role, I lead on community projects at The Hub, help make sure welcome is at the heart of all that we do, and coordinate and support our volunteers on the ground. I also work closely with the council and the church to build strong connections across our community.
Beyond work
When I’m not at The Hub, you’ll usually find me with a good book, having friends over for dinner, or searching out a really good (and probably overpriced) oat milk latte. I love being outdoors too — running, hiking, cycling and kayaking are all favourites. I also enjoy tending to my yard-en and watching the latest terrible Netflix romcom.
One of my favourite things about working here is being part of somewhere that makes other people feel welcome. I think that’s something really special.
A few fun facts
I’ve lived at 15 different addresses in 27 years — the joys of being a renter in your 20s! I’m also a big fan of pink– it’s always been my favourite colour, heavily buttered white toast and chocolate. If I could have any superpower, it would be the ability to eat unlimited chocolate without any consequences for my dental hygiene.
My karaoke choice? Carrie Underwood’s Before He Cheats. . My dream holiday would involve mountains to climb, lakes to swim in and plenty of good food. And the best advice I’ve ever received is: “Give it to God, and go to sleep.”
