Uganda
Our relationship with Uganda began in February 2002 when the first group of Altrincham Baptist folk set off for out first trip to Uganda, this was the beginning of an ongoing relationship with Uganda and her people. Working initially with Jinja Christian Centre our ministry in Uganda has expanded over the years.
UgandAid was established during 2002. Working with Nile Vocational Institute, which is located close to Jinja at the source of the River Nile, UgandAid provides quality vocational skills training for some of the most disadvantaged youngsters in Uganda, including orphans and the poorest of the poor. Hundreds of Ugandan teenagers have already benefited from this support, sponsored by members of the church and others from a much wider community, including Spain and Ireland, and a new Motor Mechanics training facility has also been constructed and equipped.
The relationship was extended beyond the church to the whole of the borough with the formation of the Trafford Jinja Association in 2002. The friendship agreement between Trafford and Jinja was signed with the Mayor of Jinja when Trafford Mayor, Harry Faulkner, and Head of Leisure Services, Mike Atkinson joined one of the regular teams visiting Uganda to engage in community projects. Through the Trafford Jinja Association, schools and other organisations and faiths across Trafford now have links with the people of Uganda and the friendship finds expression in a variety of practical ways.
