Prayer Letter from Pecel

22nd November 2007

Dear brothers and sisters in the distance,

It is so nice that we can address you this way. The word "brother" is among the most beautiful words in our language, and as the meaning of the word is filled with content, joy and peace takes place in our hearts. Yes, You are our brothers and sisters, and you have authenticated this not only by words (mostly not by words), but through your lives. As getting closer to the end of this year, one always looks back: what were the things that were good, nice, full of content and hope. The times when many of you were here are of these things.

We are glad, that together with you it was possible to lay down the foundations of a ministry that beyond the great level of attention brought the hope of spreading the seeds and the harvest.

We would also like to thank you that you remember us in your prayers. We understand how important it is, and we also feel that you do it undiminished. Beyond being thankful for you, we would also like to pray for you regularly.

This weekend we are celebrating the 115th anniversary of the existence of our church, like we usually do it, with lots of singing, music and with the desire in our spirits that there will be some people, who after many years will give thanks for those, who did everything that God's congregation in Pécel would stand, grow and would fulfill its mission. Thinking of this, there is the question in many of us: is it really so, that we do everything for this? And do we all do our part?

Let me suggest you some prayer requests.

  • Please, pray together with us for our renewal. This is probably what we need the most. That 115 years of age starts to really show. We would like to open our hearts wide open towards God, that we would turn to other people with much greater love.
  • At times we feel, love became cold in some people. As if someone has stolen our joy. Without this, spreading the gospel of joy and peace is hard. Please pray that we would regain our first love.
  • Please also pray for the Hungarian nation. We also live in this, and we understand every decay of it. We would like to do all that is up to us.
  • Please ask the Lord that he would show us new gates, regarding possibilities for mission and the growth of our church.

Please, you too, share your plans, joy and struggles with us. If we know about these, we can pray for you.

As a closing thought I suggest you the 6th verse of the 23rd Psalm: "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life..."

We feel this too, and wish it for you too.

With brotherly greetings on behalf of Pécel Baptist Church,

Pastor

László Beke
